CHANGELING OPTIONED
California Flag

Raoul's contact, Igo Kantor, came through more quickly than Travis dared imagine. One of Igo's co-producers on Kingdom of the Spiders was J. Bond Johnson, president of Cine-Media International. He and Travis met at Igo's studio, after which Travis received the Cine-Media International option letter below.
An experimental interdisciplinary study course at CalPoly, Pomona, had rekindled Travis long-held concerns for the environment and inspired changes to Changeling. Downplaying his original occult, pop-culture Faustian theme, but retaining most of its music, Travis had begun reworking his musical fantasy adventure to explore the ancient mysteries contained in Western mythology, folklore and custom that once regulated and restored the symbiotic relationship between Man and Nature.

So, Travis and Bond scheduled a second meeting at Travis' bungalo in Hollywood, in which they discussed the changes Travis had in mind for the production, and by the time Travis' two-hour pitch was over, the Cine-Media International option, initially based on a stage production, had evolved into a motion picture and soundtrack album production option that had the potential to reach a much wider audience, in far less time than a stage play. It still would generate two revenue streams, one from exploitation of the film, and the other for sales of its soundtrack album. As for distribution, a U.S. and English-speaking Canada negative pickup by a major studio was a genuine possibility that would immediately cover the investors' production costs, and leave the rest of the world open to exploitation by Cine-Media International through leases sold to foreign distributors that would be, along with home video sales, a principal source of profits for investors. Travis had already begun work on the screenplay they would need in order to create a script breakdown, shooting schedule and budget, but it would delay their production start date, especially since Travis had already agreed to be First Assistant Director for The Galactic Connection, a film to be shot by Gerard Alcan, also scheduled for fall.
